BUILT ENVIRONMENT

Much of our built environment - our buildings and infrastructure – was constructed for a different time and for a different climate.

Some of our buildings will be able to withstand the climate of the future, with few or minimal modifications. But other elements of the city will be vulnerable to flooding and storm damage, and could overheat during heatwave events, threatening livelihoods and lives.

Our buildings must be constructed, managed and maintained in a way that ensures they are fit for purpose in a changing climate.

The case studies in this section provides examples of how we are doing this at various scales across Manchester.
